Healthy Kids Occasional Food Calculator

The Calculator is designed to tell you if a food is considered to be an "occasional" (red) food* for school canteens under the Fresh Tastes @ School Healthy Canteen Strategy

Healthy Kids supports the NSW Government's Fresh Tastes Canteen Menu Planner model for foods sold through NSW school canteens and vending machines.

If your food does not fit into these categories it is not considered to be an 'occasional' (Red) food. All deep fried foods and all confectionery automatically fit in the 'occasional' (red segment).

Choose the category that the food belongs to from the list provided
'Occasional' (red) foods fit into the following categories.
 

Hot Food Items

Savoury pastries, pasta, pizzas, oven backed potato products
More food included in this category
Crumbed & coated foods, frankfurters, sausages.
More food included in this category
 

Snack Foods and Drinks

Sugar sweetened drinks and ices*
More food included in this category
Snack food bars & sweet biscuits
More food included in this category
Savoury snack foods & biscuits
More food included in this category
Ice creams, milk based ice confections & dairy desserts
More food included in this category
Cakes, muffins & sweet pastries
More food included in this category

Calculator step three

Now enter the information from the Nutrition Information Panel (NIP).

For values on the Nutrition Information Panel stated as "<" or "less than" please just enter the number alone. For example if the panel shows "<1" enter as 1, if it shows "less than 0.2" enter as 0.2.
