Personal Hygiene Requirements
As a volunteer working in a food handling area could you please read through the following and adhere to the procedures when preparing and handling food in the canteen.
1. Wash hands thoroughly in separate basin provided with warm water and soap and paper towels - never in the food preparation sinks.
2. Wash hands before starting work, after using the toilet, after eating, after blowing your nose, after combing or touching hair, after smoking, between handling raw and cooked foods, after touching waste food or rubbish and especially after handling money.
3. Keep hands away from your mouth while preparing food because droplets of saliva can contaminate food.
4. Keep jewellery to a minimum as it harbours dirt and bacteria.
5. Avoid handling food with your hands - use disposable gloves [change your gloves regularly] and use the tongs provided.
6. Wear clean aprons every day [these are provided for you].
7. Tie back your hair from your face.
8. No smoking in the canteen or school grounds.
9. Cover your mouth if you sneeze or cough, then wash your hands.
10. Avoid tasting or eating food while you are preparing or handling it.
11. Keep handbags and personal belongings away from food preparation benches.
12. Do not sit on the bench tops.
13. Don't attend canteen if you are suffering vomiting, diarrhoea, fever or sore throat with a fever.
14. If you have sores on your hands, arms or face cover them all with coloured waterproof dressings and use disposable gloves.
